Oil & Acrylic Painting

Painting is one of the most rewarding forms of artistic expression, but mastering it requires a deep understanding of technique and color theory. This class is designed to introduce students to the world of oil and acrylic painting, allowing them to explore traditional and modern methods while building a strong foundation in composition, brushwork, and layering.

To begin, students will complete two to three monochromatic paintings, focusing on values and form before introducing color. This step is essential for understanding how light and shadow work in a painting. Once students are comfortable with the process, they will delve into color mixing and color theory, learning how to create harmonious palettes and realistic shading.

Throughout the course, students will produce a variety of oil paintings, including replications of well-known masterpieces from the old masters. This approach allows them to learn from history’s greatest painters, gaining insight into their brush techniques, composition strategies, and layering methods. Additionally, students will experiment with different painting styles and techniques, from classical realism to modern impressionism.

By the end of the course, students will have the confidence and technical ability to approach oil and acrylic painting with greater understanding and skill, ready to create original works of art that reflect their personal style.
